Breaking News on the Diagnosis and Management of Diabetic Ketoacidosis

This webinar will present breaking news from joint diabetes societies including ADA, EASD, and others for diagnosing and managing DKA. Updated guidelines for glucose and ketone testing in hyperglycemic and euglycemic emergencies will be described. Dr. Umpierrez will review the management of mild to moderate DKA that occurs in hospital areas such as the ED and typical hospital wards, and explore the pathophysiological evaluation of severe DKA that warrants escalation and admission to the ICU. The increasing prevalence of euglycemic DKA will also be discussed.
Options for point-of-care diagnostic testing for these patients, including a hospital meter (Nova StatStrip®) for bedside monitoring of blood glucose and ketone and a multi-test analyzer (Nova Prime Plus®) for blood gas, blood glucose, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), serum electrolytes, and creatinine measurement will be presented.
