Ionized or Total Magnesium Levels, What Should We Measure in Critically Ill Patients?

Monitoring and measuring magnesium (Mg) values is essential to prevent the development of numerous complications in critically ill patients. This webinar will describe why Ionized Mg (iMg) may offer a more reliable indicator of Mg status during acute illness than total Mg (tMg) concentrations. Dr. Abdullah M. Al Alawi, Sr. Consultant, UMC, Muscat, Oman will discuss the incidence of dysmagnesemia and the relationship between iMg and tMg. The clinical and biochemical characteristics as well as health outcomes and their association with iMg and tMg will be addressed. Dr. Alawi will also describe the use of point-of-care devices for rapid assessment of iMg in critical situations.

Estudo de Gases Sanguíneos (Gasometria): Da pré-analítica à co-oximetria

Objetivos do Webinar:

Presentation Overview

Point-Of-Care Testing (POCT) Is Increasingly Used In The Prehospital Setting To Assist Health Care Providers In Making Decisions On Patient Care While On Scene And During Transport. This Presentation Will Review Prehospital Evidenced-Based Guidelines That Are Available To Direct POCT Implementation And Support.  Recent Examples Of POCT-Related Pre-Hospital Research That Can Help To Inform Future Evidence-Based Guidelines Will Also Be Highlighted.

Learning Objectives

At The Conclusion Of This Session, Participants Will Be Able To:

  • Describe How To Access And Utilize The Free Online Database Of Prehospital Evidence-Based Guidelines Created By The Prehospital Guidelines Consortium
  • Discuss The Importance Of Prehospital Research To Generating Prehospital Evidence-Based Guidelines
  • Describe Two Recent Examples Of POCT-Related Prehospital Research Studies
