Comparing the Accuracy of POC Creatinine/eGFR vs. Measured GFR for Evaluating Kidney Disease

Date: Thursday, July 08, 2021 & July 22, 2021

Time: 01:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time

Chronic kidney disease is rising rapidly in low- and middle-income countries due to limited resources and is associated with high morbidity and mortality. Serum creatinine and estimation of glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) are critical diagnostic tools for kidney disease, yet access to centralized laboratory services remains limited in primary care resource-limited settings. In this webinar, Dr. Currin discusses the results of a large, 670 patient study in a rural South African population evaluating point-of-care (POC) technologies for serum creatinine/eGFR measurement and comparing their performance to a gold standard measurement using iohexol measured GFR (mGFR).

Dr. Begos will share Nova Biomedical’s commitment to a close relationship with researchers, clinicians, and government health agencies to improve care for patients with kidney disease worldwide.

Plasma Volume Status in Heart Failure: Clinical Implications and Future Directions

Date: Thursday, June 10, 2021 & Thursday, June 24, 2021

Time: 11:00 AM

Congestion is one of the main predictors of poor outcome in patients with heart failure (HF). Assessing and monitoring congestion is essential for optimizing HF therapy. Among the various available methods, serial measurements of estimated plasma volume (ePVS) using routine blood count and/or body weight (e.g., the Strauss, Duarte, Hakim formulas) may be useful in HF management. Dr. Girerd will summarize the recent evidence supporting the association of ePVS with clinical congestion and outcome(s) and discuss future directions for monitoring ePVS in congestive heart failure (CHF) patients.

Dr. Begos will present a point-of-care device for measuring plasma volume
in critically ill patients.
